New Zealand is an Oceanian country, southwest of the Pacific Ocean, consisting of two main islands (the North Island and the South Island). Located at about 2,000 km from Australia from which it is separated by the Tasman Sea, New Zealand is very geographically isolated.

Tourism plays an important role in the New Zealand economy, accounting approximately 12.8 billion $ of the country's GDP and almost 200,000 full-time people, otherwise 9.9% of the country's workforce.

The New Zealand Department of Tourism aims to increase the number of tourists by 4 % over the next six years. In particular with Movie associated tourism due to the large numbers of tourists who visit specially to discover the Hobbits village featured in the Lord of the Rings.
